Bambi and Mike- February 2007
We recently returned from a one week stay at Desire Cabo.
We could be described as "Hedo refugees". We've spent time at both of
the Hedos, and were never 100% satisfied with our stay there. We'd been
disappointed by the service and facilities at both of these places, and were
eager to explore a new place.
We booked our trip with Denny P/Go Classy, and were impressed
with the service we received. Others had booked the hotel directly with
the resort, and didn't have their credit card processed for the resort until
just days before their arrival. We had transfers included with our stay,
and like it was mentioned in earlier trip reports, there was a lot of
confusion at the airport as to who really worked for the transfer company we
were looking for. I would recommend asking to see your name on a list
before going with anybody.
Upon arriving at the resort, we were amazed at the difference
between a Hedo arrival and a Desire arrival. At Hedo, no matter how many
people you arrived with, you were always greeted with a long wait and
sometimes a snarl. You'd be lucky to get a room within a few hours.
At Desire, we were immediately given a cool wet towel, a glass of
champagne and taken to a set of comfy chairs in front of the front desk staff.
We were then immediately taken to our room. (We had a brand new bellman,
but most people are taken on a short tour of the resort on the way to their
room.)
The rooms were clean and contained everything you'd need-
hairdryers, irons, a coffee maker, a stocked fridge. Each room also has
a small deck. As mentioned before, the rooms weren't lit real well, but
most people aren't at Desire to catch up on their reading.
Days kind of ran together, but for us, we usually got a late
start. Luckily breakfast was served until 11 am. Breakfast had a
lot of choices, and if you're not too picky, you'll never be hungry. There
were lots of fresh fruit choices, eggs and pancakes to order, yogurts,
cereals, bagels, etc.
After breakfast, we typically hit the pool. The pool was
the main gathering point in the day. There's a shallow walk-in part of
the pool, and big island in the middle for lounging. The pool bar staff
were very attentive and made frequent trips around the pool to take drink
orders. Around the pool were lounge chairs and covered beds.
The entertainment staff did a great job in the day, organizing volleyball and
dance lessons, but never had the loud, "in your face", screaming into the
microphone kind of feel at Hedo.
We tried to get to the gym every day. The gym sits at the
edge of the resort, with fabulous floor to ceiling windows with views of
the Pacific. It was small, but we managed to get in some good workouts.
We also enjoyed walking the beach. We were never harrased by beach
vendors or time share people.
4-5ish usually marked the end of pool time and the exodus up to
the hot tub. the hot tub area is gorgeous. It sits above the gym, and
looks out to the ocean. After hot tub, dinner was in several places, and
we enjoyed them all. The disco was a blast.
For us, there are a lot of reasons we're definitely going back:
1. Classy environment: I've heard Desire described
as a naughty country club, compared to the all out frat party of the Hedos.
This is definitely true and more of the atsmosphere we want on vacation.
2. Attentiveness of staff: We were flat out amazed
at the quality of service that was provided, and even though tipping is
allowed, we found the staff way less aggressive about tips than we ever saw at
either of the hedos.
3. Couples only- Single men aren't our thing, and it was
nice not to have to deal with drunken men with false assumptions.
4. Smaller environment-
There were quite a few other Hedo refugees there the week we
were there, most everyone there said they were never going back to hedo
either. I think it's great that Desire is offering a different type of
vacation and clearly a lot of people are happy to have another choice.
Anyway, it was a fabulous trip and we're definitely going back.
