DESIRE LOS CABOS TRIP REPORT

July 18 – 27, 2007   As always, we enjoyed our vacation.  This was our 10th lifestyle vacation.  We did our research on Desire Cabo and it was pretty much what we expected, with a few noted exceptions.  We’ve just returned from Desire Los Cabos and here are a few of our personal observations:

Bottom line: Not as polished as Desire Cancun and no beach! We love Desire Cancun and have stayed there three years in a row, but were ready for a little change.  Desire Los Cabos is a reasonable alternative if you’re looking for a change of scenery and want a sensuously decorated, lifestyle environment and great weather.

(1)            Side trips -  We had never been to the Los Cabos area and wanted to see the country side.   Desire Cabo was the perfect place for us to stay.  We came in from an ATV trip in the desert covered in dust and just hit the group shower with our friends.  Kathy temporarily put Sammy Hagar on her list, but didn’t bump into him at Cabo Wabo.

(2)            The Beach at Desire Cabo is not nude or topless.  We knew that going in, but planned to drag a few chairs out and put on swimsuits for at least one beach day.  We were not expecting the current construction of the resort’s desalinization plant currently going on the beach.   Nor were we aware of the vendors who annoy you on the beach selling their wares.  Please note that at Desire Cancun or Hedo, we would be the people who get up early to get a good beach spot verses pool spot.

(3)            We did not have a feeling of seclusion that Desire Cancun or Hedo III gave us.  This resort is smack in the middle of town with neighboring condos/resorts so close that the neighbors can see the nude people and have complained to the resort on several occasions.   Sitting in the hot tub bar or walking around, we could see many windows of neighboring buildings.  We walked to an ATM and the Mega Mart.  Nearby new condo and hotel construction will bring in many more new neighbors in the near future.

(4)            The pool and pool bar are nice and it’s the place to be during the day.  At both Desires, the pool closes at 6:00 pm.  It’s inconvenient when the pool party was really happening and the bar suddenly shut down.  The group was told to move to the hot tub area.  This is because they serve dinner at both Desire’s pool side and need to convert the lunch restaurants to dinner mode.  Desire Cabo has less seating area around the pool than Cancun.  Cabo’s beds seem sexy, but there are only 16 beds and playing at the pool is against the rules.  Beds can be reserved but only by passion suites and timeshare club members.  You need to get up at 6:00 or 6:30 am to get a bed for the day.  The curved double loungers look good, but they are not as comfortable as the regular, adjustable lounge chairs at Desire Cancun or Hedo III.   At other resorts we could easily sit next to friends at the pool.  Because of the furniture arrangement, it was nearly impossible to find spots together.   Shade is hard to find at the pool.   The staff will bring you beach umbrellas if you need one.

(5)            Disco -  Great energy, great seating areas for small groups.  Smallest dance floor of any of the lifestyle resorts.  The elevated dance floor has 2 dance poles and it’s the only non-carpeted area in the room.  It’s like the size of the elevated dance floor at Desire Cancun with the 2 poles, but no area around the floor to dance.  During the day time activities, Roscea of the entertainment staff teaches pole dancing in the disco – recommended for those interested in pole dancing.   Playroom off of disco – as nice as Cancun’s.

(6)            24 Hour Bar This centrally located bar often included live entertainment – a nice touch and a great place to meet up with friends.

(7)            Restaurants:  Buffets are standard and what we expected.  Omelet bar for breakfast is always good.   Suki restaurant in Cabo is much larger than in Cancun and the menus are very similar.  There are two large hibachi bars that seat about 8 couples each.  In Cancun, only 3 couples can be seated at the hibachi bar.  It is the only true evening restaurant at Cabo.   We truly missed the Il Piacere dining experience in Cancun.  Even though it’s called Il Piacere like the romantic restaurant in Cancun, turning the breakfast buffet into Il Piacere at night looses the ambience of the original restaurant with its sheer curtains between tables.  The pool buffet becomes the Tentazione Italian restaurant at night at both Desires.   In general, the food we found at Desire Cabo and Cancun to be similar and good.   It was our experience that the restaurant staff in Cabo is still very much in training compared to Cancun’s staff.   We spent extra time in Suki on several nights waiting for service/kitchen bumps to work out before our meals arrived.

(8)            Hot Tub Area – Larger hot tub than Cancun.  Swim up hot tub bar and plenty of seating make this a very sexy experience accented with a large group shower area, seating around fire pits that add to the ambiance and the play area beds.  This is a sexy hot tub designed for swingers.   In Cancun, you can sit in the hot tub and have a panoramic ocean view.   In Cabo, the ocean view is blocked by frosted glass so that the neighbors cannot see the naked people in the hot tub.  Because of complaints from the resort’s neighbors, the normal lighting around hot tub exits and ledges have been turned off resulting in more than a few stubbed toes.  We were told that the lighting was acting as a projection screen on the frosted glass giving the neighbors an X-rated show at night when we asked to have the lights in the tub turned on.

(9)            Passion Suite Report – Very sexy, Very nice.  We treated ourselves to the suite since this was our 15th anniversary trip.  We were able to have a great meet and greet for our JulyDesireCabo2007 Yahoo Group.  We had at about 12 couples for a cocktail party and the room was still comfortable.    The reserved bed with shade was so worth not getting up at 6:00 am.  Our only disappointment in the room was because of our previous stays at Desire Cancun, we were expecting a Jacuzzi type jetted tub.  A tub that we controlled running the fresh water into and using as a bubble bath.  Kathy is very much a bath person, not a shower person.  The suites actually have hot tubs in them like the one we have at home outside.  When we arrived, the butler took off the hot tub cover and took it out of the room.   Water cannot be added easily from a faucet.  The tub cycles on and off throughout the night – too noisy.  We talked to the staff and learned how to disconnect the wiring to silence the pumps for the night, but then we would have to remember to turn it back on the next morning in order to heat the water.   We choose the passion suite for an indoor tub because we were told the Jacuzzi suites all had outdoor hot tubs and we wanted an indoor tub.   What we found out is all the suites have the same hot tub.  The Jacuzzi suites differ in that some have outdoor tubs and some have indoor tubs.

(10)      Timeshare aspect.  We received a warning from our travel agent and were prepared to avoid the time share agents in the lobby.   We were not prepared to meet Pedro in the hot tub promoting his hotel’s memberships.

Desire Cabo is a unique place to get naked and party!  We love meeting new people, going to new places and getting naked.  May you enjoy your experiences at Desire as much as we did.   The world needs more places to be naked …. K & K
