In mid Jan 2005, we visited Key West. We had heard that Deja Vue had closed, so had expected to stay in a "clothed" hotel. Imagine our surprise to discover that the Pilot House (www.pilothousekeywest.com) has a clothing optional pool and hot tub. This place is right in the middle of the old city downtown area, one block from Duval Street and a short walk to everything. They do not serve meals, but most units have a small kitchenette, and there are many restaurants nearby. The pool and spa are surrounded by high walls and buildings which ensures privacy, but unfortunately also blocks the sun.
The Pilot House consists of an old house converted to hotel rooms, and a much newer building containing jacuzzi suites. There are only about 15 units in total. We stayed in a room in the converted house. It was beautiful, clean, and comfortable.
But now for the down side. The first night that we were there, we were the only guests and after the staff went home at 6 PM, we were the only ones in the place. This was great if you don't like overcrowded hot tubs, but not conducive to making new friends and "socializing" around the pool. The second night there was one other room occupied. Like many houses in Key West, this place has a reputation of being haunted, and yes, we heard unexplained noises in the middle of the night.
The Pilot house is not a "destination" the way HII or Desire is, but it certainly is a good place to stay whenever in Key West. The clothing optional pool and spa is an additional bonus.
