Spice Lanzarote: Matt & Susan - August, 2011

Finally getting around to post info about Spice. This is truly the nicest lifestyle resort we have ever been to. We were there in Aug. 2011:

Spice is the loveliest, classiest, and best run lifestyle resort of any that we have ever been to. We found the owners Tracy and Dean, to be charming and delightful people who REALLY want to make their guests have the best vacation of their lives. They have developed and trained a staff where each and every individual wants to please the guests and everyone of them goes out of their way to take care of people on a personal basis. Here are just a few of some of the above and beyond service we experienced while we were there.

One afternoon "S" wasn't feeling to well but was somewhat hungry, the bartender by the pool called the cook, explained the situation and the cook suggested and prepared a special meal for her that would be gentle on her stomach that wasn't even on the menu that day.
We wanted to explore the island while we were there and were referred to one of the employees at Spice who knew the island well. He spent quite some time with us and a map suggesting places to visit, routes to take to get there, and even restaurants we would enjoy along the way. Everyone of his suggestions was fantastic and exceeded our expectations. James who runs the activities and night time entertainment is probably, by far , the most important individual of the staff. His energy and, charm and creativity make the experiences there fun and enjoyable. But one of the most unique things James does is what he does occasionally on the evenings before his days off. He offered to take the guests out after his work hours into the town for a late evening of bar hopping and dancing. The evening usually starts around midnight and on the night we went with him, we were the last group to head back to Spice at 3.30am. He took us to fun bars and dance clubs that we as tourists would never have found on our own. All the while, he kept us entertained with his charm and crazy antics. We left a gift for James for future guests to enjoy.

So those are some of the special highlights, but the other points to note about the top notch quality of Spice experience. The rooms are large and well maintained, and have lots of storage space. The beds are large and very comfortable. The pool and hot tub are both large and extremely clean. We learned that before opening Spice, Dean's career had something to do with the municipal water quality and care so he is well educated in such matters. The food is amazing! Hot and cold items for breakfast are top quality. Lots of different types of juices, coffee, teas to choose from. Lunch is fantastic, there are a core of about 15 types of tapas that are available each day at lunch. We found just about all of them to be fantastic. In addition, each day they have 2 different specials that keep the lunch variety nice. In the time we were there, I never remember seeing the same lunch special twice. At dinner there are at least 3 different first courses and 3 different entrees. I can only recall seeing an entree repeated 2-3 times during or stay that would have been out of 9x3=27 entrees so my point is the repeat rate is very small as well. The desserts are lovely too and the wine served with dinner is pleasant. We never found the need to upgrade to the wines available for purchase, but they are available for those who do. Food quality and preparation was top notch.

The bar opens early each morning not sure when because it was always open before we looked out on our patio. It stays open until the last guests go to bed, and in fact, the night we went out with James and got back to the resort at 3.30am, the bar was closed but we wanted to go up to the hot tub and a staff member on duty reopened and brought us several drinks up there. The resort has everything you could hope for. Off the main bar there is a club/dance area with a quality DJ/mixing table. Off this area there is also a very sexy and elegant playroom with 2-3 king size beds plus another huge bed which is basically 2 more king size beds abutting each other. There are also 4 elegant outdoor beds. The hot tub could easily fit 50-70 people !!! possibly over 100 and has a swim up bar with stools in the water and a lovely waterfall and colored lights in and out of the water at night.

Overall it is a super resort with super people and super staff on a lovely island in a beautiful part of the world. We will definitely be going back. The only question is when?
