Couples Negril: Dennis & Donna - January, 2004

I will start this trip report off with Wow!! What a nice place.

We have previously stayed at both Hedos ,Grand Lido Negril several times and many different Sandals properties.

Couples Negril is absolutely beautiful, the service was excellent, and the food was very good each evening.

We arrived on a Sunday via USAirways. We took the bus over this time. The trip took about 1 hour 15 minutes because of a Red Stripe stop. Our last several trips over since the road was finished only took 1 hour without any stops.

The lobby was very nice and open like the rest of the Jamaican resorts. There is a nice gift shop to the left; the Internet caf is past the check-in desk to the right. The Piano bar is across the hall from the Internet caf.

The lobby looks down upon the beautiful pool, with a swim up bar in the middle and hot tubs on either end.

We requested an ocean front room. Our building was angled to the beach and set back off of the beautiful beach. I do not remember our room number but the room was very nice and we really liked the decorations. Tile floor, platform bed w/ bright comforter and colorful pillows. Wall tapestry above the bed w/ spotlight to illuminate. Wicker type dresser, closet w/ locking safe, cd player, and satellite TV. We had a nice covered balcony w/ (2) chairs and a table. The bathroom was standard hotel dcor.

What can you say about the Negril area except just perfect. White sand beaches with shade trees right to the edge of the water. The water is beautiful and roped off for swimming or floating. Couples has several soda/beer taps scattered on the beach and they also have red flag service. You stick the red flag in the sand beside your chair and a pretty smiling waitress will take your drink order(ahh.. the purple rains)  and return quickly. They have chair cushions that you use for floats. We never had a problem finding chairs on the beach. They have plenty of chairs w/ umbrellas around the pool. We didnt sit here very often because we have a pool at our house but no ocean.

The beach bar is right beside the pool and stays open until 5:00 a.m; there is a grill with a covered seating area behind the beach bar. We had most lunches here because the food was delicious (burgers, jerk pork & chicken, fish, hot dogs). They have a nice salad and soup bar here also. Around 5:00 pm they offer coffee and cappuccino. They convert the beach grill to a restaurant with menus in the evenings. The main dining room is under the lobby and the food and service here was top notch for Jamaica. There are shows here on several nights. They have a beach party one evening and setup a great buffet around the pool.

We had dinner at OTAHEITE (fine dining) one evening. You have to make reservations. The concierge takes reservations across from the check-in desk. Dinner was excellent here as well and service was 4 star. We dined with several other couples at a larger table. They have tables for (2) if you want to be alone. There is a violin player that stops by each table for requests.

We had room service several mornings. They leave a door tag in your room to order continental breakfast. We even made some special requests and they filled the requests each time. The delivery was right on time each morning and having breakfast on your balcony in Negril is a wonderful way to begin your day.

I used the Internet caf every day to keep in contact w/ work and home. New Dell computer w/ high speed link.

Our only complaint was that we had to leave. Our flight left Mobay at 3:30 pm and we had to be in the lobby at 10:30 for the bus. It only took (1) hour to return so we had (3) hours to kill at Mobay.

To sum it all up. We LOVED Couples Negril. The resort is between Grand Lido Negril and two RIU properties. The resort was in great shape and the meals were terrific each time. The service was probably the best that we have encountered in (10) trips to Jamaica. Our compliments to management. You are doing a GREAT job here. We will return to Couples Negril on our next Jamaican vacation.
