Hedonism II Trip Report - Charlie: Jan 2021

Sitting here on the deck listening to the waves coming in and enjoying a peaceful morning - thought I'd give a little update on NYE. For context, the occupancy went from about 130 to 225-250 for New Years (many of those are checking out today tho). No outsiders were allowed to attend.

Some changes to the traditional Hedo NYE (for those who've been here for NYE before): The theme was the '50's, so 1950 era decorations were all around the pool area and dining room. A cocktail party started on the pool deck at 6:30 (Ja time); dinner followed. First course was served at your table (chilled shrimp and mussel). The tables were numbered with the theory being they would call numbers to go to the buffet for main courses and desert - but I never heard any numbers call (probably wouldn't work anyway) and there was no problem at all getting served at the buffet and easy to social distance. Mask use when not at your table was required and followed as best as I could see (policing masks wasn't my objective for the evening). Dinner was very good and plenty of everything.

Entertainment: '50's era jazz with guest horns were followed by guest singer (I should know who it was as everyone will want to know, but I was too involved in conversation at the table). Then Winston and the team did a great job for the final act before adjourning to the courtyard. The entertainment quality was not compromised at all buy the lower occupancy number - you'd think they were still playing for a 600-700 person audience. Excellent job. As I predicted, I didn't last into the courtyard dancing / welcome in the new year part of the evening. Winston tells me I missed a great a great party tho.

All in all, while the evening was festive it was definitely Covid-restrained. Some of that due to the lower numbers and lower crowd intensity. The staff did an excellent job.

The weather has been excellent. Reasonable temps and humidity and very little rain. Some cooler mornings and a little more mini-wave action but overall perfect.
Happy New Year all!
