Howard & Linda - August, 2004

Trip report by Howard Huge,

Linda and I just returned from Hedo II August 14-22 (our 3rd trip). I found the grounds kind of soggy after hurricane Charley brushed the coast on August 12th, but that cleared up as the week went on. Weather was typical for summer: Gorgeous mornings with no wind, hot sun and the pool was the place to be early each day.

I found it annoying that the pool maintainence was not finished until 10-10:30 every morning (island time) and we had to stay out until they were finished. Mid-day consistantly saw increasing clouds and the afternoon was rain squals 2 out of 3 days. The in room AC units are way better now than they were 10 years ago, so sleeping was very comfortable. Kudos to the maids and housekeeping staff. The rooms are kept spotless every day. One gripe: No hot water for showers and Linda didn't like shaving her legs in a cold shower one little bit.

Packing for a week at Hedo is a snap. Ladies take resort wear, (see through stuff is very much the thing to wear,) and pack an outfit for 6 out of 7 nights. Toga night is the exception. Guys take shorts, shirts and sandals. I take a very small bag for the whole week. Bring SPF protection and wear it. I used SPF 30 and got a great tan. Those ereas that seldom see the sun will be apt to burn more readily and that's just the area you don't want to loose the use of for a week at Hedo.

Maybe it's just my taste, but some the the mystery dishes in the buffet/salad bar were not very tasty. However, it was easy to find dishes that were good and once I learned what I liked, no problem. A new experience for us: we scored fresh (live) lobster from the divers nearly every day and enjoyed them at the nude pool for lunch. A little hot sauce and drawn butter, yum. Virgins: Bring a few extra $20 bills for this treat.

We had a little trouble with lurkers, as Linda is 5'6", 130 lbs., a robust 36D-24-35, flat bellied, babe. If the guys woud just back up a little bit, they would have gotten a show at the hot tub during the day. I have posted experiences on threads that were uncomfortable for her. Watching is fine, if you keep your distance, we'll forget you're there. If you stand over us, we're done. We hooked up with 2 couples and swam to the salt water raft during the afternoon on 2 occasions to play. We stopped a lot of day cruise boat traffic to watch. Now that was fun. Don't you just love the folks that cruise by very slowly to catch a glimpse of the goings on at the "zoo." If they had the kahonies, they would live the good life like we do.

In the past, I've found the drive to/from Negril to be unpleasant, so we always charter a quick 15 minute flight to the airport across the road from Hedo. Find the TimAir Rep. upon arrival and $125 pp gets you a round trip flight.

99.9% of the people at Hedo are totally awesome and that makes the whole experience very relaxing. We enjoyed the drinks, the herbs, the pool floats, the sun, grubbing on fresh lobster, messages, smoking a Cuban, and making new friends nearly every day. That pool is the best place in the whole wide world to spend the day. I'm always full of warm fuzzy feelings after a week at Hedo and I know the best weeks of my life have been the precious ones I've spent there.
