Jon & Maggie - March, 2003

Maggie and Jon - 28 Mar to 4 Apr 2003

The third time is a charm. This was our third trip to Hedo II, and probably one of the best vacations we have ever had. The difference this time was that we met some truly awesome people. I think that as a group, we could have had a blast anywhere in the world, but Hedo is special and allows you to unwind and be yourself like nowhere else. We have few negatives to report this trip.

The food seems to be better than in the past. We have been to many all-inclusive resorts and can say that this trip the food was average for all of the resorts we have visited. We found something good to eat at every meal; although, we would have liked to have had an occasional steak for dinner. The jerk chicken is out of this world (now I am craving some, is it 6:00 yet?). The leg extensions on the dining room chairs are a major improvement. You can feel like an adult while eating, although few of us acted like adults.

Beach towels were abundant and a fresh set was placed in our room ever day. No more searching for towels at 9:00 AM.

The nude bar opens at night from 11:00-2:00 and the disco bar is open until 5:00 AM so there is pretty close to 24 hours of booze flowing. The disco bar did not serve blender drinks.

The resort was less crowded than we have seen before. Our last trip it was full and we got bumped to Grand Lido. The people were a little more sedate this year, but it made for a much less stressful trip. We could always get one of the big tables in the dining room. We never had too much problem rounding up enough beach chairs and we were able to get service at the bars pretty quickly.

There was a younger crowd this year with a mix of spring break kids and kids with day passes. Someone is wandering around Jamaica finding pretty college girls and giving them day passes to Hedo. These kids usually stayed at the prude beach.

This was the first trip that we took the bus to the resort, we usually fly. The bus ride was 1:30 getting to Hedo and 1:15 getting back to Montego Bay. The difference was a beer stop and some traffic in Montego Bay. The people on the bus were quiet for the most part. The bus driver was insane, do not pay attention to the way he drives, it is scary.

We stayed on the prude side oceanfront away from the disco, you can hear the bass thumping for a quite a ways. We wanted quiet when it was time to sleep and do not mind walking. The water still ran hot and cold. The AC worked fine. The rooms need to be refurbished, but we spent so little time in our room, almost none of which we were conscience, that it is not such a big deal. If you are visiting Hedo for the first time just realize that the rooms are not nice and get over it. The room is almost inconsequential to the whole of the experience that is Hedo. We love luxury travel, but there is no Grand Hedo, yet. Although, I think that Hedo is working on getting there. Once they get there, we will need to shut down all of these websites so nobody else knows about it.

We discovered Veronicas for the first time this trip. We were in Veronicas every night and had a blast each time. We had been in there before on previous trips, but this time we really participated, and it was so much fun. Remember, "don't take anything personal". Dave is great and one of the biggest assets for Hedo. I think we tortured Dave almost as much as he tortured us. If you were there, you will never forget some of those second and third encores.

Our last piece of advice is that if you are thinking of going to Hedo, try to stay for an entire week, if you can. Our first trip was a long weekend. On our second trip we were bumped to Grand Lido. This time we were planning to stay only 3 nights at Hedo and recover for 4 nights at Grand Lido. We barely lasted a night at Grand Lido before we switched back to Hedo again. The French restaurant was great, but we missed our friends. The people are so stuffy and serious at Lido. We loved every minute at Hedo and it takes a week to experience all of the different kinds of fun as well as establish friendships.

For any Hedo management that may read this trip report, knock down the big tree in front of the pool with the swim-up bar on the prude side. The tree blocks the sun and the view of the beach and fills the pool with leaves. It is bound to be a maintenance nightmare for the pool. If it were gone, the water in the pool would be warmer and it would be the nicest swimming pool in the resort, and possibly in all of Jamaica. Expand the bathroom by the nude hot tub. The resort was not full and the bathroom was insufficient. When the resort is full, it is ridiculous. If you could slightly heat the many cascading pools on the prude side, particularly at night, they would be heaven.

We met many great and awesome people, thanks for making this trip perfect. You changed us from assuming that this would be our last trip to Jamaica, at least for a long while, to being ready to go back anytime you say that you want to meet us there. There are so many other people who we did not get a chance to say goodbye to or exchange e-mail addresses with, if you recognize us please feel free to email us.

Respect.
