Alena - December, 2002

Alena NY
Trip report #3
Trip #7 Dec 26, 2002 - Jan 4, 2003

Here are my two cents, again…
Loved it, more relaxing then usual, but still a lot of fun. Stayed on the prude side, beach and room yet again ;-)
The entertainment crew and staff, as usual, friendly, smiling and always happy to see you back.
Traveling was a nightmare, going to Hedo took over 7 hours, and coming back took almost 2 days. I don't know who's fault it was, but still it wore me out. Air Jamaica was always great, until this trip. There were many issues with departures; they did not bother announcing them and that made most of the passengers very upset. On the way home our flight was delayed 4 hours and then finally canceled. AJ took us to different hotels, the accommodation were very nice; however in the morning I was almost left behind, because no one called my room or looked for me to take me back to the airport. Once on the plane, we waited 1.5 hours for the pilots to come aboard. Kinda puts a damper on your vacation when this happens.
Once in Hedo, things were pretty easy and cool. Room had many small problems, but all were fixed immediately upon calling the main desk.
The food sucked, oh well, no one goes hungry, but hey, the prices are going up, but the quality remains the same, what's up with that?
The crowd was much more mellow then usual and a lot of people did not get dressed up for the theme nights at all. Come on people; it's Hedo, the Party Capital of the World! Partying, getting dressed up and acting silly is what its all about! Oh well, we did it and enjoyed every minute of it. Met a whole bunch of guys from Italy, great looking fellows, they dress and smell awesome. Most were very pleasant, some were a bit obnoxious in the nude Jacuzzi, or so I was told. Just wish more of them could speak English, or maybe I need to refresh my Italian. He-he
The prude beach, it has become a landmine, walking into the water is like walking on cobble stones with bare feet. They definitely need to clean it up or someone will get hurt.
Sunsets are as magnificent as ever, the catamarang cruise as romantic and as enjoyable as always.
Same as last year, during Dec 26 - Dec 28 the place was pretty much dead, very few new arrivals and the occupancy is low. Dec 29 - Jan 1, the place is rocking, then it goes dead again till Jan 4, that's when the Lifestyle's groups arrive.
New Year's Eve party, great decorations and food, entertainment was not so hot. The rest of the nights the performers were awesome though.
Toga party, was fun, but needs to be enhanced somehow. PJ party was fun but kinda quiet. I guess not enough people participated for this to be a memorable thing. There are still more single guys than girls, and we love it ;-) The wood floor in the dinning room is finally fixed, its great for dancing, but way too hot with only fans blowing.
The floor in the disco, who came up with this brilliant idea to make it concrete tiles? Geez, it hurts like hell after a little while. Some tiles are rough and some are smooth, you step on the smooth one and you may go flying across the floor. The air-conditioning is working overtime by the bar area and not enough on the dance floor. DJs were much more accommodation this time, they played many different flavors of music. I even made 3 of my own CDs and gave them to keep, so ask them to play it, I am sure you will love it. Its mostly great dancing music.
Its funny to see mattresses in those wooden gazeboes, I did not see anything interesting going on them, except for some people taking naps, but hey, they are there to be used for whatever.

Here are some personal tips and tricks:
The towels are still in short supply, get them by the prude pool before lunch, because they are gone afterwards.
Don't drink too much alcohol if any until dinner, sun and liquor will knock you out. You may miss out on the evening fun, because you will be tired and fall asleep.
I know we are all tired and cranky when we first get there; this is no excuse to miss out the activities every night, take a nap during the day and/or some Advil :-) to perk your self up. You will get enough sleep when you are dead, hehe
Don't get sunburned, be very careful, but if you do, make sure you bring Tylenol with you. It designed to lower the body temperature; hence the burn will feel less painful.
Don't worry about coming as a single person; just write to some people here online and exchange pics, its fun and you will be guaranteed to have a buddy/buddies when you get there.

All in all, had a wonderful time, relaxed, ate, danced, chatted, laughed, had a wonderful massage and of course was plenty amused by watching other people. As always, can't wait until I go back home to Jamaica, Ya Mon!

Thanks to all,
Respect,
Alena
