TRIP REPORT 2/13-2/20/01
John & Janet
Let me start by saying that we are repeat (11 times) offenders and I do
not intend to bore you with all the minute things that happen on a day to day
basis. Most of these have been
covered in past reports.
Trip Down. Air
Jamaica and Timair did not miss a beat. First
rate all the way.
Check in: Walked
into H-II about 10 mins. ahead of a genuine Texas Frog Strangler rain storm.
Came down big time, but who cared.
We were home and it wasnt snow. I had requested a ground floor
(bad knees) H block room and was immediately handed the keys to a ground floor
basketball court. When I told them that I could convince my knees to adapt to
steps, they laughed and handed me the keys to 2nd floor H block
that was absolutely ideal. After reading the check in problems, from past
reports, I was ready for a long wait. Thanks to Kennys efforts, this wait
never happened. The check in crew operated as efficiently as I have ever seen
them.
Beach Complex: Once
unpacked and the rain stopped, headed for the beach, au natural. (it felt
soooooo good). Same ole, same
ole. Lotsa
nekid people all over the place doing what ever they felt like doing.
Not many on the beach but the pool and hot tub were in full operation. Got
re-acquainted with some of the hedo-onliners who had arrived a few days before
we did. Kenny and Ginger, Patty
and Andy, Nancy and Randy and Bob and Greta, just to name a few.
Really enjoyed seeing everyone again. By this time, I was ready for
some of Roberts jerk chicken, fries and a cold red stripe. I cannot remember
beach food tasting so good.
Delroy, Scumba and Anna were on top of their game.
Always smiling, chattering and filling drink orders with amazing
accuracy, considering the crowds that always were at the bar. Somebody ordered
6 dirty bananas and Delroy made them using no measurements.
Poured 6 full glasses with nothing left over.
He is amazing.
Security: Always there and watching the goings on. Kept a pretty tight rein on the wandering textiles. Photo Phuz were REALLY on guard. Had to explain numerous shots before they would, reluctantly, let us continue. At one point, she (the Phuz) was surrounded by about 20 nudes all telling her it was ok. Intimidating, to say the least.
It was a voyeurs paradise.
Apparently the sex police were on vacation, all week. One couple was
going at it, full blast, on one of the lounge chairs, near the massage shack.
As usual, a crowd gathered and when they were finished the cheers went up.
Both acknowledged the cheers and collapsed on the lounger.
Somebody ran up and gave them 20,000 Hedo bucks.
Coordinators: What a bunch.
Crazy, Diva, Robin, Chubby, Lucky and a brand new kid on the
block Danette, aka Angel. Always around and always stirring things up, both on
the beach and in the dining room. These kids kept the energy flowing.
I would kill just to have half the energy that any one of them has.
Dining: After
reading a years worth of trip reports, I was ready for so so meals.
Maybe it was just me but I thought the meals, in the dining room, were
excellent. Charlie Murray, at the omelet grill doing his morning magic, and
the demise of theme night only added to the pleasure of fine dining.
Tuesday night was lobster night and there was plenty of it. Roots Explosion
did an excellent job, providing dinner music. Quiet enough for dinner
conversation and varied enough to allow dancing, if desired.
Facilities: Getting
tired. I think the dining room
roof has been leaking in the same places for years.
Rooms were the same; basic and kept remarkably clean by a very hard
working maid service. Water pressure and temperature were consistent in H
block. Had to do the Hedo shower quick step only one time, the entire week.
The A/Cs are still a mystery to me. Too cold, not cold enough and the fan
motor sounded like an old coffee grinder.
Did drown out the disco, the yelling and the moaning and groaning
though.
Entertainment: Overall,
fair. Georgia Henry and her rock
and roll show, was outstanding. Her energy was overwhelming and pulled people
to the dance floor in large numbers. The
biggest complaint, that I heard, and that I have is that the mcs had a
tendency to draw their introductions out, too long.
These intros were made over a pa system that was entirely TOO loud.
Numerous requests, over the years, to turn the volume down have apparently
fallen on deaf (pardon the pun) ears. Oh well, nuff said on that.
Check out: Came
entirely too fast. Spent a total
of approx. 10 mins. checking in with Air Jamaica and checking out of the
hotel. What a major convenience
having Air Jamaica at the hotel.
Trip home: Refer
to Trip down.
Cannot wait to go back. We have made reservations for Feb. 02, and are already starting to count down.
