Steve & Char - 12/99: Wet, Wild, and Wicked

 12-99    winter www   trip report

Arriving home from our last Hedo  vacation (Dec. 98)  we immediately began planning our second Hedo  vacation. Which we had thought  Dec. was a great month for us.

Visiting with Denny, he invited us to July www 99 but there was no way we could  get away before winter.  We finally opted for the 2nd week in Dec. and with-in  a couple of months winter WWW  is announced.  As luck would have it, we well overlapped WWW week and were allowed to sign on with this awesome troupe.

These people were great, meeting and chatting on line added to the experience.

As in the past shopping and planning for the Hedo vacation was nearly as fun s the trip.. This year we got a new floatie, new pj’s, toys, etc.

One of the ideas we had (shared with www’s) was gifts of shoes for the Hedo  staff.  This was well received, but I would like to point out our mistake. The first day there, we gave 8 pairs of kids tennis shoes to our maid, she was ever so grateful.  The next day she went on vacation for the duration of our stay.  That is right, our room was never done before 3p.m. and most days we did not even get towels in room.  My advice - give your gifts on different days or on the last day of your stay, not the first.

This year we had a red-eye flight  leaving at 6 p.m. and arriving at Mo Bay @9;30. WOW . That wore us out. Our first day was spent recuperating from the flight, major jet lag. We did spend some time in airports making connections. Tho I constantly harassed Char about being in the smokers terrarium at the airports (I am a non smoker). The smokers were always friendly and spoke to us.  Reminded me of Hedo people, they may be non conformists but, damn, they are friendly.

Our first night was pj and as I had said on message board I was ready with  the red long-handles. (union suit).  I was amazed the Hedo staff had to be told what they were and even some southern  U.S. folks  did not know.  Lol.   However  I did win a bottle of Tai Maria and as I always say “ won booze tastes better”.

Our 2nd pj  I was not so lucky, I was soundly but fairly beaten by Denny P. , well done Diane, I wish we’d have thought of that.

On one of our first days, I spotted a new couple at Delroy’s.  I thought they were a couple we had e-mailed with.  Hedo virgins from a neighboring town who had expressed concerns of privacy.  I took a chance and approached them “Hello, you two,  don’t you recognize me? I am your neighbor, 3 houses down”. Truly a Kodak moment that got away. They were lucky they didn’t trip over their lower jaws. (their mouths really dropped) I told them who I really was and we all shared a good laugh, the first of many good times throughout the week.

We got to photo the ceremony of David and Joyce renewing their wedding vows. This was done on the point and made for a lovely setting. Congratulations again!  Thanks again Joyce for the ankle jewelry.  Sorry the photos were so late getting to you.

Everyday we met new www people,  everyone was great and  each left a special memory.

Thanks Denny and Diane for the www tattoos.  The application of which was an adventure in itself.  Thanks Denny for not allowing others to be tattooed, as this was for recognizing others from the message boards, which was really great planning.  Made it easier to get together  with the www er’s

I didn’t make it to the work-out room much BUT  did lead Diane in 16oz.  Curls in the pool.  What the hey- we were on vacation.  It is important to bring you own mugs for drinks,  32 oz. Or whatever size.

Toga night was very lame.  Costumes  were great but no guest talent.  Anyone  with any talent at all should get an act together, so we don’t have to be so bored with the in-house talent while waiting for the Conga line.

As usual lobster night was great. Thanks Magumbo for the gallant but feeble attempt at out eating me.  Better luck next year.

Most everyone else has given a rather accurate description of the art auction. And being as we have nothing nice to say will say nothing at all.  Good time to have reservations for Pastafari’s.

Thanks Denny for arranging the catamaran cruise.  And a big Thanks to T-Wayne and Julie for the rum shooters. As Char would say “ always did enjoy a party boat”.  That was a good time, a special www perk.

Meeting and getting to know all the www people was just great.  Visiting with them was kinda AWE, inspiring.  Most have such great stories as to what they tell their family and friends as to how they spent their vacation.  There are a lot undiscovered fiction writers in the www group. LOL

Would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for making this our best vacation ever.
