September 4th to the 12th was our 16th trip to Desire. People may wonder why we still file trip reports- what we can possibly have to say about the place after so many visits ? But for us each trip is different and special in it’s own way. This trip was our 10th with Dennyp’s WWW group and our 6th September in a row at Desire, but also our first time actually being there over labor day weekend. Turns out there are a great group of people who traditionally go to Desire over labor day. We had a great time with all the Labor day group and WWW folks-and we plan to be back next year (September 4th to the 11th) over labor day again !
It just so happens that my birthday is September 4th. I had no idea, but my wonderful wife Barbara had contacted Mia at the resort several weeks before our trip and made some special birthday arrangements for me- and a good friend in the group who was celebrating her birthday the same day. When we arrived- while I was checking in- Barbara took off and was running around the resort taking care of “details”, but of course I really didn’t even notice. Once we got to the room, we were visited by staff bringing me a 6’high blow up birthday cake, champaigne and fruit, and some other goodies. Finally I knew what she had done, and it was a great surprise. The rest of the day was a blur. A special dinner with our friends, “extra attention” from friends in the hot tub, judging the guest fashion show that night- just a fantastic day ! Thank you to all the Desire staff, our good friends, the ladies at the hot tub, and especially to my wife Barbara for the best birthday ever !
Even without the birthday, the first half of our week seemed extremely busy. The resort had a special “tantric” theme that week with daily sessions at 4:30 in the disco starting on Saturday. On Sunday we had a great nude cruise with a dozen other couples. It was a great time ! We were back in time for tantric classes, followed that early evening by the WWW/Labor day group welcome party. Several of the Desire management folks were on hand mingling with the guests. We heard about the postponement of the opening of the new Unik resort -and of the expansion of Desire(delayed indefinitely). A very classy event and we do appreciate the way Desire’s management takes the time to talk to and get to know the guests and listen to our comments.
Monday morning we went to see Claudia for our massages. It ‘s hard to believe but each time with that special lady just seems to get better and we can’t imagine going to Cancun without seeing her !( Later in the week we were also privileged to be asked to help Claudia celebrate her own birthday. Thank you Claudia ! It was a very special night. ) Then Monday afternoon we held our WWW erotic gift exchange. Desire supplied a private bar and bartender for us, and about a dozen couples had a great time with a lot of laughs. Poor barbara- everyone kept stealing her “toys” ! Finally, Monday night we had the WWW wine/spirits tasting party. We had an excellent turnout. Again Desire provided a bartender and mixes, finger foods , and again management was on hand to mingle. An excellent party- and a chance to sample some really unusual booze ! Lol
After all the “events” – even though they were all great- we were happy for Tuesday to arrive so that we could just set back and enjoy everything Desire. For the rest of the week, that is exactly what we did. Here are our impressions of the current “state of Desire”.
The staff: From checkin, to the bartenders, maids, waiters, and management- we have never seems the staff be more friendly and attentive than they were this trip. The new EC staff is energetic and full of ideas. Everyone always had a smile and a kind word, we always had great service in the restaurants-at the bars-around the pool-and on the beach. But nobody-( including the security guys who were always happy to stay back out of the way and not bother anyone who was discreet)- was ever intrusive or overbearing.
The facilities: Desire has continued to improve and upgrade rooms. New lighted magnifying mirrors, flat screen Tv’s, etc. The grounds are absolutely beautiful- as good or better than the pre-Wilma days in 2005. The lobby and lobby area bar/entertainment area looks great and a new covered stage has been added. The hot tub and it’s accompanying beds are as inviting and fun as ever. The disco still is in serious need of upgrading- but there was no smell, the AC worked pretty well, and the atmosphere was sexy and exciting as always. The beach staff worked very hard at keeping it clean. But the water level was so high all week that the beach walkers from other resorts were only about 10 ft from the naked guests on the beach beds. Not a problem for me, but a little disconcerting for some. From what we saw though-at least in times like this when the weather is so hot- the beach walker issue is only a problem in the mornings. There were very few in the heat of the day. Just a little endorsement here for the beach bar. It only has a dozen seats, but it’s a fun place in the afternoons to hang out, get in some of those “only at Desire” conversations, and even to participate in some body shots. The pool was very busy as always this time of year and the EC’s did a fine job with activities. The pool does need resurfacing, and the word is that will happen in early October. Early in the week the AC was out in the main buffet. Since it was very hot and humid, that did make dining a little uncomfortable for a few days but the problem was fixed by the end of the week.
Food & Drink: For us, the food this trip was better than ever. They have put a lot of effort into making sure that there are several options for the buffets. The quality was excellent, and they are obviously VERY conscious of cleanliness and food safety. Very shortly there are new menu’s coming for both Il Piacere and Suki- not because what they had wasn’t excellent but just to change things up and provide more variety. We found the variety of liquor to be good- we are usually vodka drinkers and were happy to see both absolute and grey goose at the bars.
Entertainment: In the years we have been going to Desire the one area where the biggest improvement has been made is in early evening entertainment. Especially in the past year they have added some fantastic new events in the lobby bar area. Live bands, fashion show, dance troupe, etc provide nightly quality entertainment now- where in the past the period between dinner and the disco opening was often “dead”. The new entertainment staff under Victor’s direction have implemented some new theme nights and disco contests to keep things fresh. Even though some people don’t like change or just don’t like some of the new themes- you have to applaud the effort to keep things fresh. We found participation in the themes to be about medium this trip- maybe 40 to 50% of the guests on any given night. But the disco really seemed to be hopping on most nights. The DJ was very responsive to requests- we had a great time there…… in many ways !
Our fellow guests: More than anything mentioned above, we think that the people you spend time with at Desire are always what really makes a Desire vacation so special.. This trip was no exception. Friends old and new from places like Alaska, California, Equador, Indy, Miami, Montreal, Iowa, Indiana, England, Mass., Nova Scotia, and many other places. People who in real life are Accountants, business people, farmers, contractors, nurses, teachers, lawyers, doctors, and even a Cia operative (a joke……we think) all come to Desire and instantly become the same. Friendly, open, and fun people who just want to leave the world behind for a while and truly enjoy life without worrying about what anyone else thinks. It is a beautiful thing- and it is the biggest reason we keep going back. As we mentioned we were there this trip with a group- Dennyp’s WWW group. This was our 10th time with WWW and our 12th time with a group. We highly recommend going to Desire with a group. Meeting people before you go on group boards and have events when you arrive is so important to getting your trip off to a great start. It all flys by so quickly- you don’t want to waste a moment !
Negatives/Regrets: As far as the resort goes, we obviously love Desire having been there 16 times. Over the years we have at times had issues with some things. We realize that you can never please everyone. Issues like beach bed policy, pool chairs, internet access, food selection, and etc will always continue to pop up. But the great thing about Desire is that they do listen and make changes that, while they always involve compromises, make as many people as possible happy. With that in mind we really have nothing at all to complain about right now. On a personal level, the one regret we have for this trip is that we were so “busy” at times that we didn’t take the time to meet everyone in the group as we usually do.

We don’t like to list a lot of names in these reports- mainly for fear of leaving someone out- but to all of our fellow guests and Desire staff who helped make our latest Desire trip such a great one, THANK YOU !
