DennyP - August, 2006

Since the Palm Springs area Sea Mountain Ranch resort has been open for about three months, I though it was high time that I make the trek out there from Phoenix to check it out. The drive over was uneventful and went by quickly once we left the heavy Phoenix traffic behind.

I had been to Palm Springs before, but never to Desert Hot Springs where the resort is actually located. It is nondescript looking from the outside and is set in a residential area. It was very easy to find. There is parking out front and vacant lots on each side. Those of you who visited the Las Vegas Sea Mountain will appreciate that. It is located only 10 minutes from the Palm Springs airport and 90 minutes from the LAX airport. It's proximity to LA brings in many international visitors.

There is a buzzer at the front entrance along with a security camera to restrict entry to those who are expected. Even if you are visiting on their day passes, you have to call ahead to place a reservation. Someone from the office will come to greet you and lead you back to the office to complete the paperwork. First time visitors are given a quick tour of the property. Very evident as you walk through the resort are the $700,000 worth of imported sculptures. Overnight guests are shown to one of the 15 rooms and day visitors (9 am - 2 am) are shown to the common restrooms and storage locker area. Everyone is provided a large beach towel. Additional towels are readily available. It is very common for there to be 80 day visitors on the property on the weekends which adds to the energy level.

There is a large central courtyard for sunning with plenty of lounge chairs - some under umbrellas or palapas. These are high quality chairs most with very comfortable pads on them. The palapas have an integrated lighting and misting system. There is a spring filled mineral water pool with an 8' deep end and a circular hot tub is located nearby. Both the pool and hot tub are available for 24 hour use. There is an enclosed area with a circular play bed and some chairs. This area is also used for dancing and there is a "stripper pole" too. There is a spa treatment room and massages can be scheduled each day.

There is a food area where the continental breakfasts are served. You will also find water and ice tea available here all day. Someone from the staff always seemed to be circulating with margaritas in a big pitcher. During lunch time a chicken salad and munchies were available. You also had the option of ordering food that was prepared off site and delivered twice a day. A service charge is added to the food cost. Some people left the property for meals and some ordered out. You can bring in your own food and drink. The guest rooms have a refrigerator and microwave in them. There is also a refrigerator available in the food area for use by day guests.

The rooms are well appointed with top of the line furnishings including the imported French doors. Each bed cost over $2000 and has Egyptian linens. A flat screen cable TV and DVD player are included. The showers (as are all showers on the property) are supplied from a local mineral spring. Each room has its own air conditioner and heating unit with remote control. There is also a ceiling fan above the bed. There was daily maid service. Not much time was spent in the room other than for sleeping. Wireless internet access is available at no charge. However, reception was better in some locations on the property than in other locations.

The resort has no restrictions on public sexual activity. You may see anything at any time. While lifestyle activities do take place here, non-lifestyle guests are not made to feel out of place.

There was a DJ on Friday night. They played until people were ready to call it a night. They stopped at about 4am. When there is no DJ present, they have large CD collection and a 3-satellite radio system that can play music from any category. A mix of music is normally offered throughout the day with a little quieter music played in the mornings.

Once of the high points at Sea Mountain Ranch is the level of service. Someone is always available in the front office or is circulating among the guests to take care of any need that may come up. The staff is very friendly and keeping guests happy is foremost on their minds.

Sea Mountain has some additional upgrades on their schedule. While the Palm Springs area is known for its warm winter nights, outdoor heaters for the cooler winter evenings are scheduled to be added. They will be doing more landscaping of their garden areas too.

Sea Mountain is a unique resort with a combination of a lifestyle and nudist friendly atmosphere mixed with luxurious surroundings.
