DennyP - July, 2015

INTIMA RESORT TULUM, MEXICO

Resort Pictures

I visited this resort in mid-July 2015. It was a slow week sandwiched between two busier weeks.

Intima is a clothing optional adult resort. You can wear clothes or not or anything in between. This applies anyplace on the resort. But any sexual or erotic activity is not permitted in any public place. (An exception is during a specific lifestyle week September 26 – October 3, 2015.) Intima is not on the beach but is just a few minutes taxi trip away. There are clothing optional beaches nearby, too.

The rooms are stellar. They are located in 3 story buildings – no elevators. Rooms on the bottom floor have swim-up have swim-up access from their patio. Rooms on the second floor have a private Jacuzzi on their decks. Third floor penthouses have a Jacuzzi on their deck plus a private rooftop splash pool.  Third floor studio suites have just the Jacuzzi.

Studio Suites have a master bedroom and bathroom with a mini kitchen. The One Bedroom Junior Villa has a master bedroom with bathroom and a living room with a fully furnished kitchen. The One Bedroom Master Villa is similar to the Junior Villa but there is a ½ bath in the living area. Two Bedroom Master Villa is a One Bedroom Master Villa with an attached Studio Suite giving 2 bedrooms with their own bathrooms sleeping 4.

Pricing is based on room type and location and not on the number of people in the room. The Two Bedroom Master Villa can sleep a maximum of 4 people while the others sleep a maximum of 2 people.

The rooms are priced separately from an optional all-inclusive food & beverage package. If you don’t purchase the all-inclusive package you can purchase food and beverages ala carte and pay at check-out. You can purchase groceries locally and cook them in the full kitchens available in all the room categories except the studios.

There is one pool with an adjacent larger Jacuzzi. The pool has a swim up bar with access from the non-pool side, too. That is the only bar. There is an open-air dining room where all meals are served from a menu. However, if something special is desired, they will be happy to go shopping locally to acquire what you need – within reason.

There is no entertainment team on premise. Canned music is played around the pool/bar/dining room area. There are no nightly activities or daily games or other entertainment. There is a pool volleyball net for those that might want to play. The resort staff is very customer oriented. All of them that interact with the guests are fluent in English. They will help you with Spanish if you choose to learn something while there. Many guests will go into town or visit various local beaches or tourist or historical areas during the day. American dollars are accepted just about everywhere. However, the exchange rate used by local merchants (and at the airport) is not as good as the bank exchange rate.

Spa treatments are available at an extra cost by appointment. The resort is about a 90 minute drive from the airport with no stops. You can pre-purchase transfers or book them separately at the airport. You can also rent a car at the airport if you plan on doing a lot of local travel. Be sure to look into Mexican insurance for any auto rentals. They drive on the right side of the road as is done in the US and Canada.

Wi-fi is available throughout the resort at no additional price. Although reception is better in some areas than others. It is adequate for most purposes. Viewing videos or movies could be problematic.

All-in-all Intima makes for a great vacation destination as long as the guests are aware of what’s awaiting them.
