Trip Report for Desire Cabo from Scott and Barbara April 7-14
2007
This place is awesome in so many ways. We will try to address the high points in
chronological order, not by order of importance. The airport is small, and does
not take much time to get through. Once you depart customs, there are a bunch of
people trying to get you to listen to their sell on time
shares/transportation/events. Just walk past them to the outdoors. If you are
taking a shuttle, go to the right, if you are taking your own cab or private
ride, go to the left. The ride to the resort is very scenic and only about 20
minutes long.
When you pull up to the resort, it is very inconspicuous in nature. It is
situated among other resorts, and is across the street from local shopping. They
even have their version of a Walmart a block away in case you forget something
like sunscreen. It's called the Mega mart (Sunscreen is only $6.00 there) When
you go in, you are greeted with a glass of Champagne and a cool moist towel.
Room service is included, and available 24 hours a day. The rooms have a large,
in room, safe that you program your own combination into. (No key to carry when
naked) The room key is already on a lanyard for your neck.) The rooms are a good
size, and each has a balcony or patio. The bathroom is interesting. The shower
door is also the door to the toilet. The shower itself is very large (you could
fit 4 people in there if you had a mind to) with a shower head in the ceiling
that rains down on you. A hair dryer comes standard with the room. Two robes and
slippers are also supplied. The tv has cable with about 15 channels from the
States. The cable also has a porn channel with pretty decent action. The
refrigerator in the room does not get as cool as we would have liked, but it is
better than room temperature. They stock it every day.
For those of you interested in buying recreational pharmaceuticals, they are
easy to come by. You can get hooked up by asking the right person in the resort,
but will have to wait a day for it to be delivered, or you can make a purchase
from the vendors on the beach (They are selling jewery mainly, but open the door
with letting you know they have pipes for sale). Only one vendor made it a point
of telling us: "Hey man, I got weeeeed". Other than that one vendor, it is very
low key and out of site. We never saw anybody smoke it in public. Legitimate
drugs, such viagra and cialis are available in the resort gift shop.
Besides room service, there is always food to eat, 24/7. The nicer restaurants
have a dress code requiring slacks for men. The food is worth bringing the extra
clothes. During the day it is usually about 85 degrees, and later in the
evening, it gets down into the 60's, so the slacks are not a heat issue. we
would recommend eating dinner at each of the restaurants at least once, and try
the seafood!!!
The resort has activities throughout the day, with most having pretty good
participation. We spent the day time primarily mingling in the pool, laying on a
bed poolside, or occassionaly playing volleyball. Though the other activities
received good reviews from people we talked to there. The ECs (Russell, Alex,
and Hailey) are more laid back than at Hedo. We personally liked this approach
better. Russell is the best of the 3 of them. He is very funny, makes sure
people are having a good time, and genuinely seems to care about doing a good
job. The other two are much more quiet, and appear to serve in more of a support
role.
Things like towels at the pool, hot water in your room, getting somebody to take
your order, were never an issue. Our air-conditioner broke, and they had
somebody at our room to fix it in about 15 minutes. The entire resort is always
clean. It appears as though they clean the public washroom about every 2 hours
or so. The staff hustles to get you things. They seem to feel bad if they can't
fulfill your request immediately. Tipping is permitted, but never expected. From
our point of view, the only things that Hedo has over Desires is a slide and
better french toast!
Swinging/playing activities definitely happen, but are much more low key than at
Hedo. During the day, you ,may see people touch or kiss, but nothing overt. The
rules permit open playing at the jacuzzi. During the evening hours is the most
prevalent time. We never saw any "sex police", and there didn't seem to be a
need. Everybody acts like a decent human being. We didn't see any rude behavior
around the pool or jacuzzi during our entire trip. The closest thing would be
one overly aggressive volleyball player. Apparently winning is important to some
people even on vacation.
Some things that were highlights for us: Sleeping out under the stars, listening
to the surf, on a bed by the jacuzzi; afternoon naps pool side with spouse and
friends; walking on the beach of the Sea of Cortez; being pampered for a week;
the memories of love and togetherness that the resort gives you the opportunity
to have the time and the place to have!
We have great memories of Hedo experiences, friends made (Both guests and
staff), but we will hard pressed to go back after such an extraordinary time at
Desires.
