Our review of Desire Los Cabos 3/28/07 - 4/03/07

A first time couple’s perspective

As our first vacation alone ever we decided to go for the real adult get away.

We were not really a lifestyle couple when we signed up for this adventure nor are we sure we are now ;-).  What we do know is that this was the most magical time we have ever shared together. As far as the resort itself goes we wanted to share some of our opinions.

The Pool, Pool Bar, and Daytime Eating

We definitely enjoyed the pool. The water was like a bathtub everyday.

It was the place to meet other couples, find friendly conversation that was mild to wild, or just relax with a good book. Like most spots at Desire you can do whatever you enjoy here.  The bar was great for us but we are easily pleased with our spirits, vodka or tequila for him and Captain and Coke for her.  We found the poolside café to provide all we needed for lunch. Its not world class dining - think of Chili’s or Applebee’s type - but its day time snacking at its best with choices from the grill like steak sandwich, chicken sandwich, hamburgers. There were also buffet items like chicken chop suey (more like chicken and noodles), chicken wings, salad bar, fruit bar, ice cream, fries, chips and guacamole.

Dinner(s)

We only dined at two of the restaurants.  The Italian place which was the poolside café nicely transformed into a nice romantic atmosphere and SukiSuki is apparently the flagship dining experience for Los Cabos. I am sorry to report that in my (Mr) opinion they have failed here and I have only one good thing to say about it.  We met some nice couples there.  The Italian restaurant was good and satisfied us. You can order off a menu and also choose buffet items, which is helpful. I am Italian so to critique the food would be unfair due to my perspective. All I can say is it was good and tasty. Authenticity well not so much. What I personally would like to see is for Desire to have a Mexican restaurant.  Yes you heard that right.  In fact the Mexican food is rather limited and I wish they had more.

Breakfast

Breakfast, in my opinion was great! They have everything we desired from fresh fruit to omelet bar, fresh squeezed orange juice to roll your own bloody Mary. My (Mr) personal favorite at Breakfast was the Chorizo and Eggs cooked up nicely by Marco Antonio. Now, we live in So Cal so this is a meal I have eaten often in my life but at Desire it was great especially with there freshly made Picante on top with fresh corn tortillas.

More authentic dishes like this throughout the resort would be fantastic.

Mélange Bar & La Disco

After dinner we would stroll over to the Mélange bar for cocktails and conversation. What can I say, it was great fun. Joel remembered our drinks and served them up nicely. The Disco is not your typical nightclub. The action may be limited as you know some people just don’t dance. After the contests – which were all fun - that place empties like a building on fire. Nonetheless, we found it to be fun and Paco does a good job playing the tunes.

Roof Top Jacuzzi Lounge

We tried the water on two occasions, and found it to be much too cold for us (It was 2 AM). Another night, it was too hot for us.  Every time we were up there, however, people seemed to be enjoying the tub.  We found that just relaxing by the fire pits was very nice for us. Fresh clean towels were always available for use in that area also. Had we followed the crowds to the tub in the early evening our experience may have been different.

Room & Room Staff

We booked a Passion Suite, as I said earlier this was our first ever vacation and we wanted to go all out. Would we do that again? No. Not necessary and the VIP treatment we thought we would receive we are sorry to say just did not happen for us (perhaps our expectations were too high). However, the room staff did a great job of keeping our room made up everyday and we always had a supply of fresh clean towels. Room service was always available, and we REALLY enjoyed the 4 am B.L.T. and Cheese pizza ;-) ! We never had any problems having them come up just to bring bottled water either. You will be waited on nicely and receive any and all requests in any room you get. The staff is that attentive to your needs and desires.

The “Life Style” Aspect

As newbie’s, I (Mrs. SoCal) was a little leery of this part of our vacation. Yes, there were experienced lifestylers there but you really would never know until YOU ask. Most were open to answering our questions in a very friendly and hospitable manner. The most forward invitation we got was “Want some company?”  We accepted ;-)

(Mr’s Perspective) The lifestyle is there IF you want to partake. If you don’t you simply don’t and enjoy your vacation like everyone else.

Summary

Hell yes we’re going back.  March 2008 sounds good J
