Roy & Cyn - December, 2011

Hi all, trip #27 is in the books...and we had a wonderful time.  We actually checked in on 12/30/11, and this was our first NYE party at the zoo, and we were not disappointed!  Many of our pals were in the house, Randy & Julie, Pam & Paul...both friends from the mid 90s, and they didn’t look one day older...the great miracle of Hedo.  Who said there isn’t a fountain of youth.  Our Canadian friends Dale & Steve and our Boston Buddies Dawn and Shawn were also on hand.

We were a host couple for another travel agency (you know who you are), a big ups and thank you for the opportunity, we totally enjoyed it.   It gave us the chance to work hand and hand with the front desk staff.  Believe me, you learn to appreciate all their work and the pressures that they are under.  Unfortunately, you also get to witness some of the poor behavior of some guests.

The staff as always were totally fantastic, Beverly, Sophia, Rasheen, Delano really helped us out during our “working hours”.  I have to give a big shout out to the Head Chef.  Our friends were leaving one day and the night before a special request was placed for shepard’s pie (sp?).  He made the arrangements and they totally enjoyed their meal.  Personally, I thought the food very good again this year.  Two nights featured suckling pig...which was a big hit.  The fresh stir fry always has a line...because it is very good as well.  We were a bit disappointed with breakfast, normally our favorite.  My wife had a hard time getting her eggs over easy and the waffles sat a bit too long in the pans, drying out.

We totally enjoyed the piano bar, quite lively as always.  One night, I hear my name yelled out by a female friend of ours.  I jumped up and went to the bar ,where she was attempting to calm down a very loud man.  After about 15 minutes we calmed him down enough, for him to realize just how close he was to being kicked out of the resort.  The male ego, especially when aided by a few too many drinks, grows to high levels.  It was not a good scene, but as I have related many times on Denny’s...you can’t stand by...be a man or a woman and help out your fellow guests.  Anyway, it all ended well and he actually found me standing at Delroy’s the next day and said thank you.

The weather during our stay was great.  We had one afternoon of pretty heavy rain...as all vets know that doesn’t stop the party.  Jamaican “condos” made out of the foam mats, and towels help to keep some of the rain away.   You just make sure that your beach belongings are properly stowed under the drink station next to the hot tub.  It’s always cute to see the faces of those that don’t enjoy the rain, watch those of us insist on being nuts enjoy the water, both cold and hot.  At the Repeater’s party, Main Pool deck, Wed night it was a bit cool.  Seeing the Jamaicans huddle together attempting to stay warm, was a fun sight.

A special thank you to Suzy and Mark from TTs...they put on some awesome entertainment at the nude pool...fun games and prizes!!  You never know what is going to break out at the pool.  That’s it for now...another fun trip, we laughed so much during our stay.  I guess the laughter, the friends, the staff keeps us coming back year after year since 1992.  Twenty years going to Hedo, 27 trips...here’s to the next 20 years.  I got a feeling that we’re just getting started!!
