Trip Report for Hedo II August 21-28

Let me start by stating that this was my 19th trip in 21 years. It started from Boston to JFK then on to Mo Bay. Upon arriving at the Super Clubs waiting room, I was given a bottle of water and asked if any people were interested in Tim Air and I found out that a couple just left so I asked if I could join them on their flight. We all flew over; Deb sat beside the pilot while her husband and I were in the backseat. It was a great flight and we landed a few moments after takeoff. I was able to get some great aerial pictures; my camera's zoom came in handy. We split the cab to Hedo II and checked in. The resort was about 25% full.

I was assigned room 2156 and have had this room often as I have been happy with its location near everything. I hung my sign on the door and got the dive shack to blow up my Monkey for my window. Both help me to find my room in the early mornings. I got naked and headed to the nude beach to see who had arrived and who was here. When I reached the nude bar, I found the Zoo Crew, Kenny & Margaret and a lot of other people I was surprised to see. It was a great welcome home and drinks were hoisted with cheer.

I was able to have dinner in Martino's on Saturday night and the lamb was great. Everyone we ate with enjoyed it very much. I heard that the food in the main dining room was very poor and held my judgment until I was able to eat there on Sunday night. We had my birthday party on Sunday night and I was very unimpressed with the food- in fact, I would say it was the worst in all of my trips. The dining room staff was as always great and did everything that they could to make sure that everyone had water and wine. The party was great. Monday night we had plans off the resort. Whenever possible we ate at Martino's or the Japanese restaurant. Of the two dinners at the Japanese restaurant, we found inconsistency between the two meals but it was better than the dining room’s food by far.

Other then the food being poor, we did have the main pool spring a leak into the disco so it was closed Saturday night.  The disco was moved outside near the ping pong tables and pool tables. It was very loud and a lot of people were upset and could not sleep because of the music. The leak was fixed and the disco was used for the remainder of the week. As with most of my trips, the disco does not play disco music - or what I would call good dancing music. The bridge to nowhere is still up.

The piano bar is still the place to be, without question. Dion, the piano player, has come a long way. He does a great job and has made a place in Hedo II history for himself. I would say the song books were a little beat up and as we get older, larger print would be nice.

I will say that there have been two other changes that were upsetting. On Tuesday night we have always had karaoke and on Friday night we have always had a piano player. Now we have a piano player going up against the PJ party and most people would rather be at the piano bar with Dion and not at the disco.  This had made turn-out for the PJ party very low. On Friday night (my last night) we no longer had a piano player but karaoke, and it is not as good of a party.

A pleasant surprise did happen on this trip. On Saturday night, I was having some fun with some first timers (virgins) to hedonism and making everyone laugh. On Sunday I was stopped by a beautiful woman who said, “Is your name Eric?” and I responded, “Yes”. She informed me that she talked with the general manager to make sure she had the right name and that she had worked at the resort sixteen years ago. Her name was Robin. I instantly remembered her and noted that she had changed her hair style. Back then she was the nude beach coordinator. It turns out she is living in NY and was there with her husband and some friends (the Hedo virgins from the night before). She said she was laughing so hard the night before her belly was still hurting. It’s nice to know that I was remembered fondly from a full 16 years ago. Just goes to show you that you never know who you will run into at Hedo II.

The catamaran Tuesday, as always, was a great trip. Philip and Patty do what they can to make each of the boats is safe and enjoy able. Rasta Ralphy has not changed in 20 yrs.

I did tie with a couple for 3 free days. It took over 8 trips to the sales office to get the paperwork, however.

Over all, it was a good trip and was great to see some friends and relax. The rum was freely flowing and the beach was great thanks to its caretaker. The jerk chicken at the nude bar was good enough for a 4pm pick-me-up with extra sauce (need the sauce). At 5pm each day, Tony had a toast and on the last day of our trip I supplied champagne.

The resort needs work and general maintenance; for those of us that know this resort as well over time it is noticeable.  I hope now with the end of Hedo III, management looks to fix the cash cow they have before it dies. We love Hedo for the people and the loving staff that take care of us. God-willing, I will be back in 51 weeks for my 20th trip.
