Charlie & Bunny - May, 2010
Bunny & Charlie, May 2010
This was our first May trip (we usually go for a
week or so in November), and although it was a short getaway (need to
cure our DIF!) we crammed a lot of fun in that timeframe!
Had a pretty full bus leaving Sangster, 3 couples going to Hedo – 2 to
Breezes and one going to RIU.
A little traffic in MoBay and construction along the way, we
would have made it in about 1:20 – but
someone had to have rest stop.
Weather was pretty good - although overcast at times, really
never got more than a sprinkle here & there - not even enough to get out
of the pool to cover our stuff up on the loungers.
Occupancy was probably about 30% based on how they were setting up for
dinner - mostly just tables on the bar side of the dining room.
Breakfast was always good, with rarely more than a person or two wait
for eggs from Charlie. Early
in the week, lettuce was nowhere to be found on the buffet – at lunch or
dinner, but they seemed to have it for the burgers at the beach.
Salad did return later in the week.
Bananas at Delroy’s always seemed to be available.
Neither was crowded, but the beach seemed to have
much less people than the pool on most days (or maybe the pool is
smaller – so looked more crowded!). Loungers could easily be found under
palm trees along the back (in front of the nude ocean front rooms), in
the sun or under cover along the "front row" & same for the jetty.
The soda dispenser by the massage shack, which I thought was not
there in November, has returned – but only the water operational.
Glad to see that – the bees were terrible there, but being able
to get water comes in handy.
The 3pm “happy hour” took place each day at the
nude pool, which we liked.
Good mix of music – and even the EC games weren’t too bad…usually trivia
for hedo bucks. Reading the
back & forth about it on the message boards, maybe they’ve gotten the
word to turn the volume down & mix up the music because we really
couldn’t see anything worth complaining about.
Our evenings went pretty much the same - dinner on the later side, catch
the end of the show (which seemed to be much more EC driven, less
outside entertainers) but they did have the steel drum band on Monday
which is always good. After the
main stage, we'd venture to the piano bar for an evening with Deon - who
continues to entertain and get the crowd going. Even Karaoke (Mon & Fri)
was good, with decent participation in spite of low occupancy.
We love the piano bar because of the 1) good entertainment, 2)
air conditioning, 3) great bartenders – “young” Delroy, Arthur, etc.
Delroy is great remembering people’s drinks, and noticed him
making & delivering when he saw people getting low…maybe it was the low
occupancy, but great effort in my book!
We ate dinner at the buffet most nights, except for
one at Munasan – which was a lot of fun, partly because of the people we
were dining with & our chef and waiter for the evening.
Can’t remember the chef’s name (but did get it for the comment
card!) but he had us laughing and singing most of the dinner.
He’d start a song tapping his utensils on the grill, getting us
singing along…even a version of “big bamboo” - - which ended with him
going back into the kitchen and coming out with a very large zucchini to
in response to the question about what “size” his
bamboo was!
A new addition this trip (or maybe our memory is
just too fuzzy…) was each bar making Mojitos to order – with mint from
Hedo’s own herb garden. They
take a little longer to make, but are quite yummy.
I think we’ve already picked out our “first drink at Hedo” drink
for next trip!
We got to the disco late on Tuesday for the PJ party, and it was long
over (even though it was only about midnight). The disco was dead for
the most part - spent little time there. Toga night had decent
participation, which was a little surprising with the small crowd.
Hit the late night hot tub most nights, usually on the "too warm"
side, but only one night just about impossible to get in. Should say one
of those nights, an employee was going around asking everyone how the
temp was, and tried to adjust...at least it appears they are trying to
stay on top of it.
Didn't see Scumba all week, saw Agustus when we were checking in on
Monday (he was in street clothes), gave us a big hello - but didn't see
him working all week. I will say Delroy (who I have often thought had an
attitude & seemed to only be friendly/serve people he's friends with)
was in great spirits and earned a "respect mon" from me for his service
during our trip.
As I've said, we travel in Nov & there is a large repeater population
that we've become friends with over the years & this was our first time
going at a different time - knowing no one (other than on a yahoo group
we joined) and I can say it was an AWESOME trip. It is great to expand
the "hedo friends" group - and we met some people that we had a BLAST
with, J & T (our yahoo group moderator who made a hit with his ipod – a
welcome addition to the nude pool with the mix of Marley, Shaggy, etc.).
and a host of others – 2 couples who happen to live within a mile
or two of us back home! Imagine the laughter realizing your new found
Hedo friends, live in your own back yard! Only at Hedo.
We've already started getting quotes for November!
Irie!
