2/23-3/13

While this was my 43rd visit, it was the first time I spent nearly three weeks there – and the time flew by!  Each week had a different vibe and collection of prior years’ friends. First, some general info:  The weather was slightly cooler than prior years but beach-able every day; only one shower in the afternoon in the 19 days.  The sand on the nude beach – especially in the main walking area from the volley ball court to the grill is pretty shallow – concrete shows in some spots.  Karl (aka: Jazz-Bo) says they won’t re-fill it until “after the rainy season” (my interpretation: October). Some windy days that got the “red flag” posted due to the rough surf – but still bright and sunny.

New chef started while I was there – young Jamaican, Culinary Inst. trained – doing a great job so far. Some innovative cheese and desert goodies coming forth from that kitchen since he took  over – my guess is that things will only get better.  Pastafari is still great – although the antipasto buffet is a bit weak compared to the past.  Gala buffet nite on Friday is outstanding – lobster served both Friday’s I was there. Ice crème machine still out-of-order, so they were providing a tub of ice crème in a bed of ice to self-scoop (of course after the third person, you needed gloves to handle the scoop – a bit messy!). The Prude Beach Grill (Rasta Café) now has table service!  I was shocked that she takes and delivers your order and will fetch your drink from the bar – a nice treat. Overall, the food scene is improving.

New AC units almost work too well – the secret to turning them off: set temp to 72F and fan speed to “economy”. Hit any temp button to turn back on.

My first week there the group “Fluffernutters” pretty much too over the whole place – OK with me as they provided some levity to everything while not being too overpowering. Minimal PDA. Second week had a Kama Sutra group there – they were very laid back and I almost didn’t know  they were there.  Third week featured Tom’s Tours’ “Ms. No Swimsuit Contest” – ironically, most of the times the contestants were wearing a red sash and a swimsuit! Go Figure.  This was a larger group with several private, invitation only events – but plenty of PDA and levity, although pretty laid back on the beach (no so in the pool).

Overall a great trip and no major gripes (but after 31 years, I’m a bit “conditioned”).

Cheers,

 Charlie
