Brian & Kathleen - April, 2009

Kathleen and Brian - April 25-May 2, 2009   PICTURES

This was our second trip to Hedonism II with Biff's Bunch.  This time we stayed the entire week and it still wasn't long enough.  I'm still trying to recover and get back to reality after a week of fantasy.  I hope to make this an annual trip like so many others. It's in our blood now, and it's a hard act to follow.  We took a cruise to the Virgin Islands this year and every other vacation just pales in comparison to Hedo. I like trying new places, but once you've been to the best, it just doesn't make sense not to keep coming back for more.

We had no problems with Air Jamaica - coming or going.  Everything went quickly and smoothly.  We were greeted more warmly this year at Hedo, and the staff acted like they remembered us.  When we left they were especially warm, and there were no hassles from anyone, not even the vendors.  Everyone was pleasant and friendly, and went out of their way to make us feel welcome and comfortable.

There were no problems with the room either.  The a/c was cold, and the showers were hot.  We even had a hair dryer this time, but I brought one from home just in case.  That was a problem last year.  We also figured out how to take good pictures of ourselves in the mirrored ceiling this year.  We couldn't get that down pat last year.   As far as Nude vs.. Prude rooms and garden view vs.. ocean view, if you have lots of extra money go for the best with the Jacuzzi and all that, but if not, save money and get the cheapest room and stay longer. I refused to listen to that good advice last year, and paid more for an ocean view nude room.  We were just as happy in the prude garden view room this year, and it hardly made a difference to us at all, and we saved a lot of money.  You really don't spend enough time in your room to pay for the ocean view which you can have as soon as you walk outside all day long anyway.  It's also quieter when you want to sleep on the garden view prude side, and the short walk to the beach is entertaining and you meet more people on the path, and pass the prude side bar where you can get drinks faster and are closer to the dining and dancing.

The weather was better last year, and we had rain showers almost every day this year, but no day was a total wash out.  The showers tended to show up mid day, and we'd take a nap under the cabana or in the room and that would give us extra energy for the night life.  So it worked out well. I would have liked a little more time in the sun on the raft, but we managed to get a few hours every day.   I strongly suggest bringing a double raft if you enjoy floating in the water. You can mark it with your name and the dates you are at the resort, and then leave it for the next group if you don't want to try to fold it up to bring it back home. Some bring bigger and fancier ones that are fun too. There was a covered floating cabana this year that seemed to provide nice cover to quite a few during short rain showers.   Brian went scuba diving twice, and that's always enjoyable for him.  The nude catamaran cruise was a first, and a lot of fun.  We both got out by the caves and swam.  Very cool.  We had some rain on the way back, but not until the end.

We didn't make it to Rick's or see the sunset this year, but we walked the 7 mile beach down to Margaritaville and back, and had lunch there.  It's worth the walk.  The stares from being topless walking along the Sandals beach are priceless.  All the women were nudging their husbands, and some men were breaking their necks trying to look without being too obvious.  No one at Hedo bats an eye, so it's comical.  Some thought it was against the rules to walk topless on that beach, but we asked permission of the guards, and the only place it's not allowed is the family beaches.

We enjoyed the private parties and the resort parties and getting dressed up.  It does seem like fewer people participate in the toga party now, and very few, if any, dressed up for the pirate party, and others that the resort sponsored.  They do still dress up for the PJ party, and the private parties however.  The entertainment is always great, with Winston and Dion being the stars.  The girls are a blast- especially Sunshine.  Dion is fantastic in the piano bar.  This year we really got into to going there after dinner every night and enjoyed it so much.  We never made it last year, so I'm glad we didn't miss out on the antics in there this year!

The nude hot tub was a lot hotter this year, and that was nice.  We also saw more public sex and had no one stopped us either.  It's not "in your face", but it was more obvious and open this year than last.  We didn't notice any swapping or lifestylers but that doesn't mean they weren't there. It just wasn't obvious.

The food was always good. We ate at Pastafari once and the Japanese restaurant once.  Both were excellent, but this time I thought the food in the dining room and grill was just as tasty.  The drinks and bar service were all excellent. I got hooked on Absolut and Ting, but would indulge in a Hummingbird, Dirty Banana, or Rum Cream once in a while.

The days all ran together after a while, but every day was wonderful.  We met many nice people, especially from Canada.  Brian played nude volleyball and went down the nude waterslide. I had my hair done in the spa.  We still didn't manage to get a massage yet. We enjoyed the Red Stripe beer, and the Blue Stripe cabanas.   We have very fond memories of both.  :)

The only part of the resort that still doesn't thrill me is the disco. I just don't like the atmosphere in there that much.  It's too dark, too loud, and the music doesn't sound that good.  Although we went in there a few times to dance or for parties.  I guess I just prefer Raggae music on the beach or in the piano bar, and the dining room dance floor for dancing.

I can't seem to turn off the Bob Marley music in my brain after being home 4 days, and am already counting the days until we go back.
