Joe Rookie Trip June, 2005

Hedo II Trip Report: June 9 - 16, 2005

This was my second trip to Jamaica my first as a single, my first to Hedo II.  Seven years ago I got married to my-now-ex-wife at Breezes, Runaway Bay.  I decided it was time to go back to the island, but try a different venue.

The trip down was uneventful Memphis to Mo Bay.  Flew through a tropical storm which made things a bit bumpy, but not unbearable.  I met some nice people on the plane ride and we hooked up again at Hedo II

After the quick tour through immigration (it was very quick compared to what it was before), it was off to claim my luggage and on to the glassed in Super Clubs area.  After a ten minute wait we were off to our bus 30 minutes later we were on the road to Hedo.

The bus ride was fun met some great people and saw a lot of the country.  The ride was approximately 90 minutes with a bathroom stop/drink stop on the way.

We arrived at Hedo and were greeted with a glass of champagne and friendly staff.  Within 15 minutes my room was ready and I was headed to the sand.

I booked a single share room.  My roommate was great willing to give me a quick tour and to share some dos and donts.  Thanks, Ron, for your conversation and orientation to Hedo.  Would I do a single share again?  You bet no problem.

Being a virgin, I thought Id check out the prude side first no one was to be found.  So I headed over to the nude side and found plenty of friends!  It was great fun much more so than Breezes.

I took time out one day to try the Yoga class.  That was a nice diversion from trying to wreck my liver in one week.  There are lots of different classes available (spinning, weight training, etc.) and if you want to try your hand at one simply show up at the appointed time.

I was up early most every day and went for long walks on the 7-mile beach.  If you enjoy some exercise and beautiful scenery, dont miss the opportunity to head through the guard station on the prude side and walk along the Beaches and Sandals water front.  It is a nice way to spend some time early in the day.

The weather was great.  Most every afternoon we experienced some rain but it was short lived and didnt serve to dampen the party.  We simply gathered around Roberts Grill or Delroys and continued to party.

The entertainment at noon was almost non-existent.  I usually ate a quick bite at the buffet, caught some quick conversation and succumbed to sand gravity (it is hard to resist.)  The nighttime entertainment was better some nights than others, but as a whole it was pretty good.  Most of the time it was a bit too loud for talking but one could always escape to other areas if conversation was a priority.

As far as the food, I am a vegan and had plenty of variety at the buffet.  I dont know about the restaurants I was too busy to be tied down to a specific time to eat.

Well, it has been over a month since I began this report and it is time to wrap it up.  A couple of parting thoughts: buy and skim Chris Santillis book it is a great help and be sure to try snorkeling on the nude side.

Thanks again to Ron, Jim and Debbi, Scott, Paul, Josette, Josef and Ingrid, and especially Rick and Mary!  And thanks to all of the staff you are great!  I hope to be back in November, 2005!
