Jim & Tricia's Third trip to Hedo II 01/02/02 to 01/10/02
THE FLIGHT: To start off with we were running a little late so we decided to get a bite to eat at the airport. We arrived two hours prior to the flight and barely made the 7:40 am flight. The security line was zigzagging throughout the whole Providence airport. We didn't even have time to grab a muffin. We arrive in Charlotte at 9:43 am and looked for something to eat, all we could find where tacos and steak sandwiches (pass). We jumped on our plane which was supposed to leave a 10:55 am. One of the passengers that booked on this flight decided not to get on the plane but checked there bags. We had to wait for about an hour for them to remove this persons baggage from the aircraft. We finally arrived in Montego Bay at approx. 3:00 pm. Everyone says you should take the bus ( bus = small beat-up six passenger van ) at least once, so last year we did. It is about a two hour bumpy , road construction filled no a/c ride from hell. With that said we took a Timair flight to Negril. The flight will get you there in about 15 minutes. We did have to wait about a 1/2 hour for our flight to leave, but it still beats the bus. Just grab a couple of Red Stripes and relax. ARRIVAL: When we arrived at Hedo around 4:00 pm we where handed our room keys pretty quickly. Unfortunatly it was room # 1253 prude side (yuk). We begged, pleaded and even tried to bribe the front desk with some of Tricia's homemade chocolate cookies. Nothing worked. We where told that with "Lifestyles" coming in on the weekend the place would be over booked ( during our stay the resort was never more than 60% full ) We usually book with Lifestyles we like the clout that they have with Hedo, and they have Fantastic reps. in house to help with any problems you may encounter. This year we booked a fall special that we found and saved a couple of bucks. That's why we ended up on the prude side. Oh well. We headed for our room through the main dinning area ( around 4:30 pm now ) and the place was as empty as we have ever seen it ( I have seen more people there at 4:30 am in the past ) We get to our room to find little red ants everywhere, the CD player is not working, ( I had just spent a couple of weeks burning some CD's for Hedo ) we have two twin beds pushed together (one higher than the other) and we still have not eaten anything yet ( unless you count the little bag of cheese snaps on the plane ) We are getting pretty mad and need an attitude adjustment right away, so it's off to the nude pool for a drink. Within a few minutes we where having a blast, seeing some old friends, making some new ones. Before long it was getting dark and we headed for the hot tub with plates of jerk chicken and an ever growing bunch of friends. By then our room problems where completely forgotten. Now I can't even try to give a day to day account because everything starts to blur together after a while. We even tried to take some notes to help with this report, but by the second day we just stopped writing. Toga night was a bit slower than we are used to. Because it was Jan. 3rd their just where not that many guest's at Hedo yet. Last year we did it up for toga night. I wore full gladiator armor with sword and all, and Trish made her own toga with lots of fancy accessories. ( we own a Party/Halloween store, so it makes it easy for us) but this year we kept it simple. We took a few dinner napkins off the table at breakfast and made them into togas. PJ night was a lot more fun. Trish dressed as a sexy nurse and carried with her a little medical bag filled with toys glow stuff and surprises. She really raised a few temperatures with that one. I was her patient wearing a hospital Johnny with my butt exposed in the back. I gelled my hair to make it stand straight up and I wore freaky white contact lenses. After PJ night we left the disco and a bunch of us decided to strip down and play on the waterslide. The new slide is a fast and fun. You have to try and you have to do it nakid.( just try to ignore the fact that one of the main supports is off by a few feet, and they quickly tried to weld a cross beam for support ). We usually are a lot more active like playing volleyball or taking a cat cruise, but this time we just sorta partied by the pool everyday. You have to get up early and mark your chairs if you want to hang there all day. We used crime scene tape to mark our poolside lounges. We also brought an inflatable 8 hole drink holder. This is a great way to get a party going and to make new friends. We also made a lot of new friends by using Denny's visitor list and sending out some E-mails. ( Thank You so much for this site Denny. Going to Hedo would not be the same without it. ) This trip we where able to get a lot closer to some friends we had met on other trips. By the time we left to go home it seamed we new just about every guest and staff member at Hedo. That's a lot of what makes Hedo so special, and why we keep coming back every year. The construction is nearly done. I was talking with one of the assistant managers, and he said everything should be completely in working order by March. When we left they where installing the see thru hot tub on top of the disco. The fake ice was getting installed on the skating rink. They had the new gym equipment, but they did not come with installation instructions. Mini golf was close to being finished too. Something else you should think about while there is to be careful where you walk. Between leaks in the roof, dripping a/c units and tiled floors everywhere, slipping happens too often. You don't want to get injured on vacation, especially in Jamaica. OK, I think I have gone on long enough. We Can't wait to go back next year!! We want to thank all our friends old and new for making this trip the best one yet. It is amazing how it gets better every year.
