The day arrived of our long awaited much anticipated Hedo trip. We were Hedo Virgins and were hoping Hedo would live up to all of it's glory. We had made such great Internet buds through Denny's page that we felt sad leaving, thinking we might miss some excitement on line.......little did we know all the excitement that was awaiting us!
We left Portland, Oregon at 2:00 on Monday and arrived at Hedo a mere 26 hours later after numerous layovers, time changes, and bus ride.
We are writing this from the perspective of the ever inquisitive Hedo Virgin since that's what we were at the time.
The "Bus Ride From Hell"- We opted for the bus for a few different reasons. #1) I'm cheap #2) Planes with an engine the size of my riding lawn mower frighten me #3) Soon come as it applies to aircraft maintenance is a bad thing #4) We wanted to see the Jamaican countryside. We felt the bus ride was fun and encourage all newbies to try it at least once. Our driver was a tour guide with a great personality and was very informative. We made some friends on the trip and the Red Stripes helped ease us in the Hedo mentality. Our driver stopped at a farm to buy the bus some ganja and after a little bargaining we ended up with about a 20 year supply. We could have split one buy between all the couples on the bus and still had some to spare. To the people in rm. #2142 after us did you find anything interesting when you got to your room?
The "Check In"- We were the first ones that bolted off the bus and up to the check in desk so we would be first to get our rooms, or so we thought. Kelli filled out the paperwork while I did my husbandly duty of checking out the bar. I checked out the bar so well that I was really buzzed when I went back to see her about 45 min. later (oops forgot your drink honey, I'll be right back :) ). Everyone was already to their rooms, everyone from the bus and everyone who was in the lobby with us. Oh no we're gonna get bumped I thought as I smiled and politely inquired as to our room. Our paperwork was lost and that was the hold up!!! No bumping there were plenty of rooms. We even got the Hblock we had requested.
The "Nude Thing"- Got to our room and were stoked to smoke a little ganja so we loaded up the pipe and hit away. We got so stoned it took us two hours to get up the courage to leave the room. We headed down to the nude pool and took a deep breath as we went through the trees and into the hot tub area. We dropped our clothes and had our first "out of clothing" experience. We had never been nekkid in front of so many people before and were waiting for some kind of reaction...but nobody cared..ok we can do this as we went up to Delroy's to get a drink (no pockets to put your hands in so must keep them busy somehow)..with the drink that is. For all you newbies our advice is just relax it's really no big deal if you are fat, skinny, old, or young nobody cares and you shouldn't either. We felt very liberated, natural and free to enjoy the sunshine and great company. "Hey,look isn't that Roy and Cyn"? Some Internet buddies we met from Denny's page, Roy looks better nekkid than on his Internet picture (that was Kel) :)~.
The "Next 11 Days"- We are sorry to report to you that the next 11 days were a blurry, sleep deprived, fantastic overindulgence ( OH YEA!) and I just couldn't find time to jot down notes in my spiral binder. So here are some Hedo highlights and advice.
Food-Was good and plentiful. We never were hungry and needing food except for a really early morning hunger pain after a lot of partying. The front desk will give you sandwiches if you ask the security guard sleeping there. The nude bar grill is #1 great. Breakfast was great (don't ask Kel she wouldn't know:) ).
Drinks/Bar Service-Bar service was slow at times when it got real packed but we just ordered double the drinks to compensate. The drinks were stiff and that's the way we like 'em (especially Kel) :)~. Maybe next time Roy and Cyn won't drink all the Galliano so as to save some for us..LOL Thanks for turning us on to the pleasures of Galliano. Ryan introduced us to the WOO WOO shot and that's a good one to jump start your engine. If you're a newbie a must try is the Purple Motherfucker shot at Delroy's bar. Thanks Mike and Cindy for mentioning that one in one of the Friday night chats WOW be careful there because two of those and you'll swear you were a supermodel. Brien showed us the flaming Bob Marley at the main bar, also a must try for newbies, it's a layered shot and they light the top on fire as you suck it through a straw. Be careful fire burns in Jamaica just like at home. To Veronica of Veronica's thanks for all the sex on the beach the last night (ya,the drink you perverts).
Veronica's Piano Bar-A great place to go after dinner and sing with friends. It's always nice for those of us without the balls to do Karaoke to make fun of those that do have them :) . To Mike: thanks for having the balls and all the great songs. We spent a few hours every night singing along with the piano man or the Karaoke singers. It's a great place to unwind and meet friends but the real party place is the disco.
Disco- I have seen many posts on how cramped, hot and loud the disco is. Well, it's a disco for gods sake.....we loved it and spent every night from about 12:00-2:00...or well... in there. It's a great way to meet "special friends" and have a great time. Debbie you are a disco goddess lighting the disco on fire...they must still be talking.....For you newbies if you enjoy that sort of thing you'll have a blast!
Like I said it's real blurry and besides we can't talk about the best parts. We had the time of our lives and a fantastic 10 year anniversary. We experienced the Hedo of our wildest dreams, not just a vacation but an alter ego! We have so many people to thank for our great times..advice when we needed it, friendship, and fun. Thanks to: Roy & Cyn, Mike & Cindy, Marty & Melissa, Mike & Debbie, Pat & Audrey, Chris and Nancy, as well as all the JuneBug Group, Ryan, & Kel's Soccer Studs :) as well as so many others. Please forgive us if we forgot you, we'll buy ya a drink next year!
When we were kids we watched Fantasy Island and thought how unreal a concept it was. We found out there is a fantasy island ...Hedo
